CARE TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE
About
Background
- Some people dream of becoming an author. I am not one of them. I grew up on the south shore of Massachusetts during the 60's and 70's. My educational background is primarily business (MBA). I never intended to write a book; however when I arbitrarily stumbled on a YouTube video about the potential risks to humanity regarding the creation of artificial superintelligence, I became concerned. Since research is something that I do, my investigative side took hold and I started to explore this matter. I soon reached the conclusion that this could be a very serious problem. I needed to make people aware.
Goal
- I have one goal in writing this book. That is to see
the generations to come live in a world where human beings are in control and considered relevant. Artificial intelligence (AI) has a place in this world; however, replacing mankind should not be the objective. The pursuit of knowledge is an admirable quality that is part of what makes us human. Wisdom is knowing when the risks outweigh the benefits. We have a chance to take control over the development of future technology. It is a choice that will take commitment on our behalf. I believe that our children and grandchildren, and the like, are worth the effort.
- This book is not about me. If in the end, people are able to grasp the potential gravity of this issue, enough to act, and yet fail to recall the author's name, I am okay with that. I will have achieved my goal.
- “Divide and Conquer” is a strategy that has been used as far back as Caesar and Napoleon. Is that what we seek in this country? Do we really want to encourage people to “hate” others who do not believe exactly what they believe. I do not think that is the solution. Let us learn to work together despite some of our differences. We need to learn to be civil to one another, a simple concept that seems to be elusive these days. I am a Christian and, as such, hope that some of the points that I have outlined in this book will help people who struggle with their faith to take the time to further explore the evidence for God. That said, all are welcome here. God welcomes all and so will I. He doesn’t care about political party, gender, race, income, title, etc. He knows all that we have done, not just that which we have been caught doing. That is why those that attempt to divide us, based on these issues, find Him so threatening. He alone retains the right for judgment. I’m certain He didn’t intend to delegate that to someone like me. So, let’s give it a try. I think we might be amazed at what we are able to accomplish.
